Mercury Retrograde Do’s & Don’ts

Many of you have probably heard about mercury retrograde and how this can bring chaos into your life for about three weeks. Maybe you’ve heard some things that may happen during this time, but do you actually know what mercury retrograde is?
So, what is mercury retrograde? 
Three or four times a year mercury appears to to spin backward, but it is an illusion, it isn’t actually spinning or moving backward. Mercury retrogrades in a sign for about three weeks. This time it will retrograde (in scorpio) from October 14th through November 3rd (election day! Don’t forget to vote!). The two weeks before mercury retrograde and the two weeks following retrograde are said to be the “shadow” phases of retrograde, meaning you should (if you can!) take these dates into consideration for your do’s and don’ts.
What does this mean?
In astrology mercury represents all forms of communication (speech, writing such as emails and texts, mail), intellect (thinking, language, logic), technology (electronics, internet) and transportation. When retrograde, mercury can cause issues with all things it represents. Your phone might have issues, your co-worker may take something you said (or wrote) the wrong way, or you might lose data. But it isn’t all bad! You can also think of mercury retrograde as a time to review or revisit old projects and old conversations, or simply return to things that you’ve left undone.
What should you do?
Pay attention to your communication style during this time. Think very carefully before you speak. Double check all of your emails before you send them, review your texts and watch what you say and how you say it because things can be taken the wrong way during this time
Be careful if you’re traveling. Make sure your car is serviced and be mindful when driving to avoid any fender benders or accidents. Make sure you are packed and ready with everything you will need for your trip.
Back up all of your data on your phone and computer and other electronics and apps.
Review all contracts or legal documents that must be signed during this time (but if it can wait try to do so)
Review and refine old projects you started pre-retrograde
Don’t (or try not to) do this:
Buy a house. If you can hold off on doing this during this time try to wait. It is said that buying a home during this time may cause problems with the home later or delays with paperwork, etc.
Purchase any electronics during this time. You may later regret your purchase or something may go wrong with the electronic later.
Don’t entertain your terrible ex if they creep back up in your life. They are your ex for a reason
Try not to start any new projects during this time, they may not come to fruition
Mail anything important without insuring or tracking your package
This retrograde may or may not have a huge impact on you (it all depends on your birth chart) but if you can try to do (or not do) some of these things, it could be a smoother time for you.
